Artificial intelligence is actively reshaping how organizations hire, develop and lead their people. To meet this moment, Villanova University’s Graduate Program in Human Resource Development is launching a new Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence for Human Resources beginning this fall.

Designed specifically for HR and people professionals, this certificate builds foundational AI literacy alongside strategic, ethical and human-centered HR capabilities. Rather than focusing on technical coding skills or quick software training, the program prepares students to understand how AI systems work, evaluate their use in HR contexts and lead responsible implementation across organizations. Coursework emphasizes evidence-based decision making, ethical governance, workforce planning, people analytics and emerging HR technologies; aka, core competencies employers increasingly hire for, especially in human resources.

This certificate is the first graduate-level AI for HR program built from a strategic HR perspective. Unlike shorter noncredit programs currently available, which often provide surface-level exposure or tool-specific training, AI for Human Resources offers a deeper, academically grounded experience. Students gain the insight needed to integrate AI into existing HR strategy, guide organizational decision making and lead change responsibly over time.

For prospective students considering the MS in Human Resource Development, the AI for HR certificate offers a clear future-of-work specialization that can be completed alongside the master’s degree. Students can also pursue the certificate as a standalone credential, making it an accessible option if you or your colleagues are seeking to expand their skill set without enrolling in a full degree program. Delivered in a flexible format designed for working professionals, the certificate supports meaningful upskilling rather than a quick credential.

The Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence for Human Resources reflects Villanova’s commitment to preparing thoughtful, ethical leaders for a rapidly changing world. and ensuring HR professionals are equipped both to adopt AI and to lead its use with confidence and strategic clarity.
