Welcome Back From VUSHRM!

Welcome to 2020! We hope everyone had a great winter break and a happy New Year. Our SHRM chapter here at Villanova is constantly striving to host beneficial events that not only cater to students' wants, but that also will help them develop professionally. We host everything from social events, to professional networking events, to philanthropic events. This semester might be our best one yet!

Our first event this semester had huge success last year and was one of our most attended events! Our SHRM Competencies Webinar is a live webinar which will be hosted by Dr. Patti Sullivan, who is also a professor in our online program. Dr. Sullivan teaches a SHRM prep-course and brings over 20 years of HR and leadership experience to webinar attendees. She will be there to provide information on HR competencies, different certifications, how you can prepare for the SHRM exam, and provide more information on prep-courses that are available.

Our next event is in mid-February and is a professional development event presented by VU HRD alumni Makeda Brown! Makeda has a unique journey post-graduation, and we find that many students seek insight for what they can do after completing their degree. This event entitled, “What do I do after I graduate?” will be a great opportunity for students to hear an alumni’s story and ask questions relative to their own. This will be a live on-campus event and will also be available via live-stream for our online students!

Coming mid-March is VU HRD’s biggest event, our Annual Networking Reception! This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the HRD program. The Annual Networking Reception is a night full of networking, great food, and an amazing guest speaker. This year’s speaker is none other than Steven Rogelberg, author of New York Times best-selling book The Surprising Science of Meetings. Interested in learning more? Visit www.villanovahrd.com to purchase tickets and read more about the event!

We will close out the semester with a Mentoring Closing Breakfast. In October, some of our students were matched with mentors and over the past nine months have met to engage in mentoring activities and grow their professional network. The Closing Breakfast will mark the end of the program and the end of this year's official mentor pairs. However, many of our pairs continue their mentoring relationship well beyond the official end of the program!

Have a wonderful semester and see you soon!
