How Digital Technologies are Impacting Human Resources
We are living in an era of constant innovation and accelerating change. New technologies have allowed startups to disrupt the business world. Airbnb, Uber, and Netflix are typically cited in business journals to make this point. However, Amazon, Google, and eBay were startups less than twenty-five years ago. They all used technology to change the relationship between customers and organizations, and ended up removing intermediaries and developing new business models. The pres

An outlook on the VUSHRM Student Chapter!
Each semester the Villanova University SHRM chapter puts together a variety of events to engage, motivate and challenge our members as they develop in their HR careers. We provide multiple opportunities to attend philanthropic, social and professional events each school year. While we do repeat some of our favorite and most popular events each year, we are always looking for student and faculty input! A few of my favorite events so far this semester have been the Diversity Pa

#MeToo Shouldn't Stop Men from Mentoring Women
Given current events, gender dynamics at work are top of mind for both employees and employers. Recently, Arianna Huffington tweeted “3x as many male managers are now uncomfortable mentoring women in the wake of #MeToo. This is a huge step in the wrong direction. We need more men to #MentorHer.” I agree with this sentiment – if men are scared to mentor women at work, then it will take even longer to close the gender gap in the workplace. However, it appears that men are frigh

#PressforProgress | Celebrating International Women's Day 2018
Today is International Women’s Day and with movements like #TimesUp and #MentorHer gaining momentum, it finally seems like there is a light on the horizon for women in the workplace. We’re finally starting to have meaningful and purposeful conversations about the gender pay gap, as well as seeing movement towards more women in leadership positions. This year’s International Women’s Day is focused on the campaign #PressForProgress. We #PressForProgress for women in the workpla

From the Box Office to the Corner Office: Directing the Gap between HR and Film
The Academy Awards (also known as the Oscars) were Sunday night, culminating in a final ceremony of recognizing and rewarding the achievements of this year in film, from acting to directing to writing, oh my! As a former cinema studies minor, self-professed cinephile, and proud owner of 222 movies (yes, you read that right), Oscars night is one of my favorite nights of the year because it’s a night to celebrate the best in film. Even though I’ve developed a new passion for HR

Happy Employee Appreciation Day!
Today, March 2, 2018, is Employee Appreciation Day! I realize that these days there is a day for everything: Grilled Cheese Day, Hot Dog Day, Dr. Suess Day, even National Pasta Day! (Pasta Day is October 17th if you were wondering, a day I will certainly be celebrating!) Yes, many of these days are silly and fun and go rightfully unnoticed. But there are a few of these national days that we should stop and consider. The need for appreciation is human and universal. Over
